Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to some of the most common questions I get asked about the class.

Silver clay is a wonderful and accessible material that's used to create solid silver jewellery in a very short time and with minimal equipment. Silver clay can be utilized in the same way as ceramic clay – it can be moulded and sculpted into beautiful forms and once it is dry it is fired and transforms into solid silver.  In the class I will explain all you need to know and show you the techniques required for you to make your own jewellery. Many attendees leave the class not only with their own beautiful piece of jewellery but with the knowledge and confidence to go on and use silver clay in their own home.

Yes – silver clay consists of real silver and once it has been fired it becomes assay quality meaning that it will pass hallmarking standards.

I will introduce you to all the basic techniques required for you to create a pendant, brooch, earrings or charm/s. The class is non–prescriptive so you are free to create a piece of jewellery of your choice - some attendees make more than one piece (you’ll be amazed at what can be made from a tiny piece of clay!).  I will show you some techniques and examples to inspire you to design your own piece of jewellery and advise you on your design ideas. Of course, you might want to come with a theme or an idea or with no ideas at all – both are welcomed!

The price includes 7g of silver clay, small findings and a leather/vegan cord.  Larger sterling silver findings such as earring hooks and brooch fittings are optional and can be purchased on the day for a small charge.

This is something that I am asked very often. Some people have wrongly been told or believe that they aren’t creative or that they have no artistic ability. Creativity is not just about being artistic and although you might think you aren’t creative you may be surprised with how silver clay can inspire you to discover your creative and artistic abilities.

Some of the most beautiful pieces created in my classes have been made by people who came into the class with the belief that they were not creative, so don’t doubt yourself and come along and see what you’re capable of!

The class is held at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale, in the beautiful Old Library Room. If you are not familiar with the Whitworth Centre, this thriving and community-focused lovely venue on the A6 is only a short distance from Matlock and Bakewell and is easily accessed from both directions. There is parking and places to eat onsite and nearby. Please see map below for location details. The Class runs from 10-4 with an hour for lunch usually falling around 12.30

If you have a voucher for one of my classes please view the current class dates here and simply get in touch with your preferred choice of date available along with your voucher code. For more information click here.

I ask that you leave the room during the 1hr lunch break so that I can set up and prepare for the afternoon session. The Whitworth has a café onsite and Barrington’s Pub is just next door. There is a Co-op across the road and ample space and outdoor seating in Whitworth Park to eat a picnic on a fine day and just over the road from the Whitworth is Joni café. You’ll also find Coates butcher’s selling pies and cobs as well as a fish and chip shop in walking distance just up the road in the direction of Bakewell.

I am always happy to accommodate a specific day or date for attendees and will do my best to hold a class for you on a date of your choice if my schedule permits. Please get in touch to enquire and book your preferred date.
